Description

POSITION TITLE/DEPARTMENT: Volunteer Services Intern  

CLASSIFICATION/GRADE: Part-time, Non-Exempt, Temporary (12 weeks)

SALARY RANGE: 24 hours per week, $16.50 per hour  

 

GENERAL SUMMARY 

As an established and respected organization, the DIA is an excellent place for interns to explore interests in museums and non-profits. Beyond learning about the art collections, interns are able to contribute to everything that helps the museum run smoothly. Interns will work under the guidance and supervision of a DIA professional on a specific project with established learning outcomes.  

 

The Volunteer Services Intern will gain an understanding of work with volunteers at the DIA. The intern will support and learn about volunteer management through volunteer coordination and special projects.  

 

Projects and Tasks Include:

  • Support daily volunteer coordination and oversight, including conducting daily briefings, coordinating shift assignments, and assisting volunteers as needed. 
  • Assist with digitization of volunteer records and organization of DIA Volunteer Council historical documents. 
  • Coordinate and execute volunteer enrichment activities under the guidance of Volunteer Services staff and Volunteer Council Board of Directors 
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment and community outreach activities, onsite and offsite. 
  • Other projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS 

Successful candidates must be studying at an undergraduate junior level or above in one of the following fields of study at an accredited university: non-profit administration, hospitality management, or related field. 

 

Candidates must possess interpersonal communication and customer service skills.  

 

Proficiency in the latest version of Office 365, including SharePoint, Word, Power Point, Outlook, and Excel is required. 

 

This internship is on site and includes work hours on weekends. 

 

DIA Internship experiences have the following preferences:   

  • Candidates from Wayne, Oakland, or Macomb Counties. 
  • Will be given to those who have not had an internship at the DIA.
